Spinnova’s sustainable fibre innovation has won a Fast Company’s annual World Changing Ideas Award. Spinnova was chosen the winner of the Experimental (New!) category award.
The winners of Fast Company’s 2019 World Changing Ideas Awards were announced today, honoring businesses, policies, projects, and concepts that offer innovative solutions to the issues facing humanity.
Now in its third year, the World Changing Ideas Award showcases 17 winners, more than 200 finalists, and more than 300 honorable mentions. A panel of eminent judges selected winners and finalists from a pool of more than 2,000 entries.
The Experimental (New!) category that Spinnova won is for concepts, prototypes and just-launched ideas that have the potential to change how we think about an issue.
– We’re thrilled to see Spinnova make this remarkable list of innovative solutions. It’s important in today’s world to give recognition to companies, whose purpose and business are based on sustainability. We work hard to scale up an innovation that global, critical challenges like climate change desperately need, comments Spinnova’s CEO Janne Poranen.
Spinnova develops a breakthrough method that can produce textile-ready fibre out of cellulose without a dissolving process or harmful chemicals. The company has recently entered a piloting phase in the development. Spinnova recently completed its industrial scale pilot line in Finland, and will now start carrying out product development projects with brand partners. In practice, this means making prototypes of commercial textile products, where part or all of current materials will be replaced with Spinnova’s cellulose-based fibre.
