A gown made from Spinnova fibre was seen in the 2019 Independence Day Reception by the President of Finland, carried by member of the European parliament Henna Virkkunen, designed and made by Mert Otsamo, one of Finland’s most prominent fashion designers.
The first apparel prototypes we introduced were Marimekko’s denim-like jacket and bag sporting the monochromatic Unikko print as well as a striped jersey shirt, two outfits in vivid blue and red colors. Introduced in February 2020, the refreshed classics were designed, printed and manufactured at Marimekko in Helsinki. This was also the first time Spinnova fabrics were industrially printed.

Named after the ancient Finnish god of the forest, this sustainable piece of workwear is 100 % wood-based, made without harmful chemicals and quickly biodegradable. Its most interesting circular feature is the fact that the apron can be recycled into new fibre in our process, without dismantling. The apron contains no materials that shed microplastics, and has no plastic or metal parts to weaken its recyclability. The Tapio apron is also undyed and uncoated.
