Spinnova’s product development specialist Sanna Haavisto finished her doctoral dissertation today at the University of Jyväskylä’s faculty of mathematics, science and applied physics. Sanna’s research was about using optical coherence tomography in studying the flow properties of aqueous microcellulose suspensions.
In her study, Sanna adventurously applied the imaging technology that’s mostly used in the medical sector. The measurement methods she developed in the doctoral thesis can also be utilized in developing material properties of microfibrillated celluloses, in other words directly in Spinnova’s product feedstocks. Flow properties are mission-critical in the development of our fibre products, so understanding these complex fluids better really helps our product development.

Sanna is now the third Doctor of Physics in the Spinnova team, the other two being Janne Poranen and Markko Myllys.
